Schagen is the historic market town of Kop van Noord-Holland, with a medieval castle and a lively Thursday market. From Schagen you can ride to the coast in an hour or cross the polders to Den Helder and Alkmaar.
From Schagen it's a 45-minute ride to Callantsoog beach along the bulb-field route. North towards Den Helder you follow the Noordhollandsch Kanaal — 18 km flat. The Westfriese Omringdijk route is a classic along historic dikes and villages.
